Running It Back
We are excited to announce that we will be kicking off our second annual Boardgame Bracket for 2021!
What is the Boardgame Bracket?
The Animeeples Boardgame Bracket is a best of 64 head to head tournament we run on our Instagram account (@animeeples).
Over the course of a few weeks, board game fans from all over the world vote for their favorites until only one title is left standing.
Last year, the champion was Terraforming Mars! We'll see if it's able to repeat this year.
The Competition
As a bit of a twist, we’ll be adding a competition this year!
After each of the first five rounds, we’ll select a participant who we think is having a lot of fun - these five folks will be our round winners.
At the end of the whole competition, we will try to find the person with the most points - they will be crowned the #bgbracket2021 champion! (hopefully they had fun, too)
Okay, so how do we participate?
First, create your own bracket - you can use one of our blank templates below or just make your own from scratch!

Next, choose the winners of each matchup all the way to the board game you think will be crowned champion this year.
Finally, post a photo of your completed bracket on Instagram and tag us @animeeples and #bgbracket2021
That’s it! Then just follow along, share with your friends, and vote for your favorite board games along the way.
How are points scored?
The @NYTimes probably knows what they’re doing, so we’ll go with their system:
“The standard scoring system awards one point for each correct pick in the Round of 64, two points in the Round of 32, four points in the Round of 16, with rewards continuing to double each round until the championship, where picking the ultimate winner is worth 32 points.”
So what do winners receive?
The round winners will each receive a cool board game t-shirt (to be shared later).
The #bgbracket2021 champion will win a t-shirt, our eternal admiration, and a year of bragging rights. We’ll probably send them other fun stuff as well.
What if there is a tie for the most points?
If there is a tie between a reasonable amount of people (let’s say up to five), everyone's a winner!
If there is an unreasonable amount of people tied… maybe we’ll do a virtual #agricola tournament to find the one true winner (just kidding! Actually, is this a thing? I would want to do this..). If there are more than five people tied, we’ll do a random drawing for the five who will get t-shirts.
That said, all champions will still receive our eternal admiration and a year of bragging rights.
Ultimately, this is just for fun, so really, we’re all winners. Brackets need to be posted by February 28th to be eligible for the championship, but late entries will be considered for subsequent round winners!
Who has to do all the vote counting after each round?
J.D. does all the counting manually… with a pen and paper. So, maybe he should also get a t-shirt!
